Go with what you know and like

Filed under: General — Dr Bill @ 9:15 am

A lot of webmasters just getting into the business decide to run with the 18 to 25 year old twink market, because they have heard it sells better. Truth be known, it does not sell any better than the other niches. A more accurate assessment is that twink sells easier. It’s easier to reach the consumer. You are less likely to screw up the sales pitch or packaging. It has a wide crossover range because it’s more about age than a particular look, interest or ethnicity. And content supply is more abundant than with many of the other niches.

The number one reason webmasters fail in this business is they are lousy at packaging and sales. The basics of these skills can be learned. But the true essence of them comes from within. You either have it or you don’t.

There is an age old saying about selling, “sell what you know, like, and believe in.” The nuances of your sales pitch naturally come out better when you are selling something you know, understand, like, and are in to. For this reason, I have always advised new webmasters to sell what they know and like. So, if you are in to Black men, that’s what you should be pushing.

Straight webmasters are at a disadvantage here, because they are not “in to” any of it. I’ll be posting a series of articles on crossover markets that will help straight webmasters get their arms around the Gay marketplace. You will still be at a disadvantage, but at least they will give you some guidance in packaging Gay content.

New survey reveals consumer tolerance

A new survey conducted by Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) for hosting company Hostway reveals consumer reaction to annoying characteristics of web sites. Over 75% of respondents (18 and older) said they were “extremely” or “somewhat” likely to NOT visit an offending site again. The study also found that over 70 percent were “extremely” or “somewhat” likely to NOT purchase from an annoying web site.
