“The FBI is joining the Bush administration’s War on Porn”, according to an article published today by the conservative Washington Post.

The post article reports, “early last month, the bureau’s Washington Field Office began recruiting for a new anti-obscenity squad.” The Post article went on to say that FBI headquarters sent a communication “to all 56 FBI field offices” stating the initiative was “one of the top priorities of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and, by extension, FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III.”

The Post article also stated “the new squad will divert eight agents, a supervisor and assorted support staff to gather evidence against “manufacturers and purveyors” of pornography — not the kind exploiting children, but the kind that depicts, and is marketed to, consenting adults.”

Now here’s where it gets interesting. The Washington Post interviewed one or more FBI agents, wishing to remain anonymous, and reported the following quotes…

“I guess this means we’ve won the war on terror.”
“We must not need any more resources for espionage.”
“Things I Don’t Want On My Résumé, Volume Four.”
“I already gave at home.”
“Honestly, most of the guys would have to recuse themselves.”

The Post article also quoted, from the FBI memo, that “bestiality, urination, defecation, as well as sadistic and masochistic behavior” offered the best opportunity for a successful prosecution.

This follows an August 30 law.com article stating, “prosecuting distributors of adult porn has angered [Florida] federal and local law enforcement officials, as well as prosecutors”, stating “there are far more important issues in a high-crime area like South Florida, which is an international hub at risk for terrorism, money laundering and other dangerous activities.”
